Post Ice fishing shanty plans
Hello everyone,

I don't want to duplicate threads so I'll ask, does anyone know if there are posts in existence already with do it yourself Shanty plans. I'm thinking the portable collapsible "tarp" style. If so, I'll search for them or maybe you could save me some time and provide the direct link to them.

If there are currently no posts on plans, if you have some, can you please post some plans?

Thank you,

Brinx

Post Re: Ice fishing shanty plans
I don't remember any plans posted, but I designed/built my own a few years ago, then replaced it with a Shappel 3000DX when Meijer's had em on clearance. :D The home-made one was constructed from two pieces of 5/8" OSB for the floor held together by hinges to make it foldable (with a few extra pieces for the hole covers), 2 pieces of 2x4 for the sides, 2 more for the ends cut on the right angle on the table saw, and 1/2" EMT pipe. I remember boring holes in the 2x4s for the EMT, then one in at 90 degrees for a pin. Each corner was labeled because the exact hole positioning was different. The EMT was joined at the top by short blocks of 2x4 with the same system - I had 4 uprights, 2 long pieces, and 2 short cross members that had the 2x4s permanently attached so they wouldn't get lost. I then took an old tarp and stapled it around the bottom, sewing in velcro at the seam to make a door and threw an old tent fly over the top with bungees to the base to form a roof. I then used 4 pieces of EMT for the runners held on by drywall screws, which was both good and bad - they slid fantastic on ice, but trying to pull it over the parking lot made one think that the car was tied to it and you were pulling both. If I had to do it again, I'd use regular skis - not as easy to pull on ice, but better in the snow and not too bad on pavement/gravel. One biggie is to either countersink the hell outta the screw heads on the skis or pound the crap outta the EMT around the pilot hole with a ball pien hammer so that the heads don't create a single sticking point when you pull it.

All in all, I'd guess I spent maybe $10-15 on the entire thing, tops, but I mostly used stuff that was around the house. (This was perfect as I had no job at the time.) I've got no plans as such though, as I designed it in my head and built it as I went.
