Howdy Kev and welcome to the site! I think in the spring Caseville, MI up near the tip of the thumb has a big Carp Bowfishing Tournament. The info will be on this site so keep an eye out...

HI Gang!
I know around white bay along the Big lake side in the rocks there are tons of Buffalos that roam the shallows most of the summer its just south off the mouth. I was Bass fishing last summer there and killed one while cranking along with my boat. I thought I hit a rock. turned around and it was a big 75# plus buffalo! Kinda chopped up. I guess just more chum in the lake now.

Anywhere in the lower saginaw bay in the hot months, there are carp. I've shot them with my bow and caught them with rod & reel - great fun, but not nice to look at! ;) My largest is about 30 pounds, caught off Finn Road east of Bay City about 1990 or so IRRC. (Water's way too low now to get anything that size in there.)

I did saw one about the same size when trolling for walleye out in the bay (about 6-7 miles out in 13 FOW) that was just gliding along about 3' down.

A few years ago, I was riding with a buddy at Quanicasee. The water had come up, then dropped quickly because of shifting winds and there were about 200 (literally) dead carp floating in a ditch hole that was no longer connected to the bay. Many more live ones in there, which my buddy decided he was going to shoot at, but I stayed at the truck (UPWIND!) ;)

If you enjoy fishing for carp, you should have a great time in MI. :D
