I wouldn't go by what any of those lodging area say. They kinda don't really know what they're talking about or whats going on. They just get general info from people, and go by that. Steelhead are just Oct-Dec? HAHA, no. If anyone has ANY questions on the river or the fish, I'll be glad to help. The A is pretty much like any other MI river, but light line and small baits are helpful, as these fish can be skitty. They're not dumb Grand river fish, that's for sure.

I seen that!

I recieved an email from the Americaninn today:

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your interest in our establishment. For the dates in question normal rates are $79.90 plus tax based on double occupancy, but if you take 2-6 rooms, I will drop the rate to $65.90 plus tax per double occupancy. We offer an enhanced complimentary continental breakfast, have indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna. all of our rooms have microwave, refridgerator, coffee makers, and high speed internet access. If you have any further questions or would like to make reservations please give me a call at 989-739-1986. Hope to hear from you.

April Holmes, GM

That's not a bad deal! Don is calling up northern traveler to see what they have.

Is that the one just upstream of the Mouth East of the main highway? If so I'm game for staying there. They have enough rooms for everyone and we can all be in the same place.

Is it this place? http://www.americinn.com/hotels/MI/Oscoda

If so lets make this the official Outing Hotel and everyone tell them that they are with MichiganOutdoorsman.com when they make their Reservations.

Now this isn't definate until Stel confirms he's cool with it but heck that nice of a Hotel for $35 a piece if two people split a room is a pretty good deal.

I might be in for this one, won't know for sure until the week before though. Possibly one open seat in my boat.

Mike

Wow, the economy in oscoda is so poor that every hotel closes in the winter. If I don't hear anything by the end of the night, we'll just plan on staying at the resort above.

Got this email from Lake Trail just now:

"Hi Dan;

Our rates are $49.99 plus tax per night. We offer a continental breakfast
bar, open from 6 a.m. to 10a.m. We would love to have you stay with us.
If you would like any additional information either email or call us at
800-843-6007. Thank you for thinking of Lake Trail Resort.

Laura Howington, Manager"

Looks like a pretty nice place to stay!

I fished one spot today on the Au Sable, and hooked three fish. I got a look at the third fish, 7-8lb chrome hen. Shelf ice is BAD due to Consummers BS earlier in the week. It was froze all the way across in spots. I've never seen that; you would need a long handled net to get fish. They got alot of snow, and the accesses are bad. Trucks would be fine, but cars, alittle tricky. Fish hit when the sun was out, as soon as it clouded and started snowing, they went off the bite.

Sweet! Should be some fish to mess around with.

OK, here is the scoop! We can go with either hotel. I like the 49.99 hotel because it's cheap. It also looks like a nice place to stay. I also just recieved a PM on another site about Tawas having cheaper hotels. I was thinking about emailing hotels about that.

What do you guys think?

I agree, Don. Tawas is 13 miles south of Oscoda, not ridiculous, but when you combine that with the 6 mile drive inland to the river, it's kinda out of the way. I think we should stick with Oscoda. I better start saving some money here.....Don are you bringing the boat or no?

I plan on bringing the boat as long as I can get it out of my parents back yard with all this snow! It's way back and around the house so hopefully I can get it out.
