Anyone up for a steelhead outing??

By the way Stel...you're the one that started this thread so co-oridinate your outing and set a date.

I told you on the phone why I might not make the 16th but you don't need me for an outing.

Well, during an average winter on the Au Sable, with a decent fall run, December and January usually fish best. In December, there's still decent movements of fish, which bolds well for January. By late Jan-early Feb, winter is at it's coldest time, and the fish can be on one day, and off the next few. Don, what exactly are you holding out for? If you don't want to reveal it, PM me. If I had to pick between those 3 dates, I'd go with January 16. You guys think we should have a backup date, in case we get weathered out? Stel, why are you so adamant on the Big Man? We could float that in late Jan or early Feb.

What Rivers do you fish?: NW rivers. Guess you say that I live on one of them from spring to fall. Fish two or three other NW rivers.
Tri-City Area...Tittabawasee River, Saginaw River
What Bodies of Water do you fish?: Saginaw Bay, Wixom Lake, Secord Lake, and a few other smaller lakes
Hunting Area: Looking for a new Bow/Gun hunting spot close to home
Ralph, MI---For gun season--about 10days
Id be more than happy to tag along with my drift boat. But for a river the size of the A-S or the B-M, I would like to have a motor on it first. I have fished the A-S before, but's it's a long time. We used to "camp" out in my dad's full size van, behind a bank in town. Get up, get dressed, jump out the door, grab your gear and your fishing....lol Get cold, grab the key's from dad, and jump back in the van....Ahh...memories...

Other than that, I would have to be a banky, like some of the others. Just because it sounds like it could be a little hairy on the ramps....

Oh, plus I would have to drive over to the west side to get it, as it is still at the cabin, getting a blanket of snow.... With my boat, I could seat three other guys, not including me. Including me, 4 total. But the guy in the back would be pressed for space to move around as the rower's seat and back seat are pretty dang close

Dale if you want to bring your boat we'd have spotters... I won't know if I can make it until the Thursday before Jan 16th...

Floating isn't that bad and I heard Stel might have a motor for sale...

Hey we can bank it, but depending on how many people go, that might be somewhat rough. And that's mainly because it sounds like I'm the only one that knows the river, so we'd all have to probably hit the same holes together, which is gonna put the fish down quick on that river. I don't mind banking it if some other guys want to drift it, but I might need to catch a ride from town to the river, so I don't get stuck.

Dale, that place behind the bank you camped is Gilberts hole. That's in the very lower river, right in town. Don, don't worry about me mentioning the name of that hole, it's well known and won't get overrun, trust me. And Dale, I fixed your post for ya, it's all just one now :D .

I originally thought this outing would be on the Big Man because that is where the past outings have been. Since the majority wants it on the Au Sable that is where we'll have it, which is fine. However, I was hoping to have another outing at the end of Feb or sometime in March on the Big Man for the people want to fish the big man, like me. It doesn't matter though, because i'll be on the white, mo, big man the rest of steelhead season.

If we have it later then the 16th, I don't think another outing will happen. W/e works though for everyone, will work for me, unless my employer thinks otherwise.

Ehhh, a change of pace is good. Every outing is somewhere on the westside, be good to get guys on some new water. Let me know when you need a partner Stel, I've got bags ready to go. And hey, I fixed Au Sable for ya  .....

Actually, no. The Ausable river is in New York, the Au Sable river is in Michigan.
