I know there's fish at PA for sure. Just look at when the browns finally did come in around the Thumb this season, it was early-mid January, and it was a pretty big push. I don't think you guys got much of a crack at them JL, as it got cold and skimmed over fairly quick, atleast that's what I heard. I'm bringing a common, but maybe overlooked bait at PA for browns through the ice  !.

i bet it will work fresh spawn ....lol infact i know it will work

The wind isn't that bad, the breakwall acts as a huge wind break, so if you fishing along with there should be little to no wind at all. The only bad part is walking the couple 100 yards to the less windy spots.

Lure choice: We will be fishing at locations that could during any day produce Browns/steel/lakers/pike/walleye. Having said this, a good supply of jigging spoons would be a good idea. Some of the best brown/steelie lures are 1/8-1/4 ounce cleos in the blue/silver, white/red, wonderbread, and yellowtail colors. Small trolling spoons, such as Mirco silver streaks and Stinger Scorpion spoons are also great producer. Colors include Yellowtail, Confusion which is copper with different colored dots on the front, firetiger like colors, and the standard blue/silver. A couple jigging rapalas and slab type spoons, such as swedish pimples, are also good ideas. The spoons are usually tipped with a perch minnow or minnow head, to allow for a flutter but at the same time also have some scent to it.

Since there are big fish around, Tip ups are also options. I have seen 40 plus inch pike taken out of the harbors and some fish close to 20 pounds, so the chance is there for a wallhanger. Browns will also hit tip ups. Large shiners work best, but suckers will also do. Another choice is a second rod with a big teardrop and a large minnow. Also, a small waxworm and teardrop can work on some days.

There is also a chance at big perch. Because of this, you may want to bring a perch rod too.

I plan on fishing daylight til dusk, usually the best time is early mornings or midday. The sun seems to help warm the water just a tad and make fish active. Nighttime has never produced for me out there on the ice.

I'll post a report sat night on what its like, ice wise, fish wise, etc. I know there are spearing shacks out near the wall and i was watching machines ride around via the webcam, so there should be at least 10 inches of ice, but i would say it will be more like 14-16 inches.

Really anywhere you see on the webcam in the harbor is fair game, i would't go past the wall the ice blew out during the snowstorm, but the harbor is locked in and safe. The water should also be crystal clear, you should be able to see bottom everywhere, even out in the deepest part of the harbor around 15 feet deep.

Ok I'll see you sometime sunday...what does your shanty look like or where should I look for you? Here's my Quad/Shanty so you can flag me down if you see me...only difference is the power auger won't be a yellow one and I might have a friend with a small red honda 3-wheeler...

Frabil ranger solo flip over type black with duct tape  . I should be near the breakwall staying out of the wind and trying to find the weededge. Just drive the quad by down the state launch and head towards the breakwall and i will be around there somewhere.

JL, are you gonna be there Sunday too? That'll really help me make a decision. I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. I really want to go fishing tomorrow, because I've got the bug bad. I want to go steelheading Saturday because overcast, 28 degrees and a low river make for a highly ideal day. Then too, I really want to go icefishing at PA!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, i'll be there both days. Go to the ausable tomorrow and sat because the wind looks more SW and W, meaning your going to be in the wind both days. sunday you can fish along the wall and be out of the wind completely and it will be much nicer.

i have in the past don, but back when we had the strong ese winds early this week most of the ice blew out and broke up on the outside of the wall. I'm not sure how far you would want to venture out. I'll know much more sat.

BTW, cool map don, thanks.
